Default problem with 3rd gear 98 JDM itr tranny

Last night, I let my girlfriend drive my car cuz she was sober and well... I wasn't. While we were on the freeway, she shifted from 5th to 3rd going about 90mph a couple times, and now the gear is grinding. It only grinds a little at high rpm shifts and not when I'm driving normal. I'm hoping it has something to do with the clutch and not the tranny itself. It only does this in 3rd so I don't think it's the syncros, then again I could be wrong.
HELP!

It IS the synchro. Sometimes if it is a light grind, GM friction modified synchromesh will get rid of it but most likely not.

There is nothing you can do besides replace synchro or get new tranny. Over time it will just get worse. Continued abuse can blow up tranny.

I have the famous 3rd grind too, synchromesh didn't help, I'm just gonna ride it till it craps out on me. I have another GSR tranny sitting here just don't want to take out tranny AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for like the 35th time.

How much does it cost to replace a synchros? Is it possible it could be something else?
Thanks man

Trust me it is the synchro. These are the first thngs to go inside the tranny.

Its not too costly if you can do it yourself, you have to buy the synchros in sets though cause honda's jewish, they want every penny they can get. But believe me, tranny work is not easy and you have to have access to a hydraulic press to get some of the gears apart.

If you have to take it somewhere and have them fix it your screwed. They will not just replace the bad synchro because they offer a warranty. To offer a warranty, they replace EVERYTHING inside the tranny, and it cost about $950 on b series tranny.

Best bet is to ride it out until its gone and then buy a used, good condition tranny from someone for like $700-750 for GSR, less for LS, B16 etc...

GM friction modified synchromesh works great! Try that first.

Thanks alot for the help guys. What exactly is this synchromesh stuff?... It's gonna be hard to find a good deal on a tranny like mine.

GM Synchromesh Friction Modified is available at any GM dealership and usually costs about $11 a quart. You'll need three quarts. Then either change the tranny fluid yourself, or take it to a shop and have them do it. Drive it easy for a few days to let the stuff get settled in and then you should be good to go.

When I first switched to Synchromesh it took about a week, but it eliminated a grind going into 5th, and greatly reduced a grind going into 3rd.
