my brothers prelude sh has intake/headers/exhaust/cam gears. it was all dyno'd and tuned over at atomic/import builders about 5 or 6 months ago.
he said that whenever he punches it from 1st gear, the throttle response is slot and doesn't pick up till around 4kish.
i drove his car and i noticed that it does have a lag when you punch it off of 1st.
does anyone know what could be the problem? is that how the prelude sh's are?

Defining "slow throttle response" is difficult. Was it sluggish even on the dyno? If that's the case, the dyno plot would be helpful to help diagnose the issue.
Just based on your vague description, a slipped adjustable cam gear seems like it could be a likely culprit if the symptoms just appeared recently...

sorry...should've been a bit clearer. when you put it in 1st gear and put the pedal down...it acts laggy/sluggish and slowly makes it way up and then around 4k or so it opens up like normal.
it might be the cam gear, because my brother said something about it looking off after getting it back from teh body shop.
could there be any other problems?

I have a Prelude with I/H/E. It's not too peppy until I hit 3300rpm or so... But if his is bogging to the point where pinging can be heard, I would guess the cam gears...
