Default Power loss through Gearbox

Hi guys, got a question to ask...

I went onto Dyno yesterday with a brand new gear box together with a Quaife LSD.

I loss near on 40Hp through the gearbox.. is this normal? want to compare with anybody.

Please also tell me what power you loss through your gear box and what you were using? LSD? OIL? Final Drive?

What Gear box oil would you recommend as an alternative to HONDA MTF?

Thanks in advance.

40whp loss from quaife installation, i don't think that will happen.
was it at the same dyno? same mods? does the car feel any slower? is the dyno even calibrated? different wheels?

honda MTF is the best thing you can use for honda trannies, it offers by far best shifts (especially in winter) and protection (even instock honda torsen LSDs)

losses from honda tranny is about 15-18% depending on many issues.

Hi thanks, first time at this new dyno station. they told me that my gear box had a 40hp loss.
The car deffinately feels faster than my old B16, cos I just dropped a new engine in with the box. Same wheels.

dyno calibrated? This could be one reason.

Thanks

Do they also offer tuning services? If so they are full of sh!!t, and trying to get your money from services not needed. It just sounds shady to me I'd stay away from there. By the way Quaife doesn't sell LSD's only ATB-D's. I'd love to have a 32G in my Si. That's a lot of money though. I was ripped off by the last dyno I went to that happened to be very reputable. I haven't gone to another one since then. That was like four years ago, and thenI decided to learn how to do it myself.... And then...

Hi Tzsir,

they did not offer tuning service.
Yes it's a ATB-Diff.

what is 32G?

Just a though I can't see it being the Quaife. Especially if it is faster. Except horsepower is a steady-state; not an accelerating measurement. It's all evident though.

How can they possibly know it's 40hp? I assume they also mean total losses through the entire drivetrain, not just the LSD.

Anyway, I disagree with their claims, and the Quaife is NOT responsible for a loss any more so than the stock diff. Especially at a dyno, where the diff isn't acting as a differential (since both tires are turning the same speed)

I politely call "BS" on this shop.

Hi, They said 40hp loss through the gearbox. not just through the ATB-D or LSD.

Thank you, I said they were crooks previously. I just didn't want to be the only one bearing all the negativity here. I think they just want you to give them money for trying to "tune it". That's what happened to me. I got the car back and the peak horsepower was higher, but the car was slower by 1.7sec. which as you know is a 'lot'. I wasn't happy with the $750~ something spent. I started road and track tuning. I'll never trust someone else with my cars again.
