Default Port/Polish - is it worth it?

Portflow is asking $900 for:
disassemble/ clean/ inspection
port & polish
multi-angle valve job
deshroud valve area in chamber
polish chambers
surface or mill to customer spec
assembly

I'm running a B18C1 with ITR pistons. Is this a worthy upgrade? Is it $900 well spent? Anyone have dyno charts for before/after?

All that for $900, definately do it worth at least $1500.

Are you running upgraded OE cams such as CTR/ITR or aftermarket... Portflow is the ****... That's where I send all my heads to get work done.. With a little tuning you will be able to tune some power out definately..

At our shop we no longer port heads, we now send all of our heads to Tom over at portflow. He does a very good job and has countless happy customers making good power with his heads. Hes my #1 recommendation for shops that do headporting.

Portflow seems to be the way to go. Any of you guys know what kind of turn-around time I'll be looking at?

I would look at other options for $900. What is the end result that you want out of your car. 11's are atainable on a stock vtec head. If you need more then definetly do it.

What other options? I'm looking for a decent gain in HP. I'm sick of spending a few hundred bucks to get a few horsepower (1-5, etc). I don't want to do forced induction for many reasons ($, reliability, etc).

if I were you i would get up from the computer and send your head now! depending on your mods to date porting/polishing will really make that gsr come alive.

I say get a better header and a full exhaust and some good cams before you go that far. You will be happier with the outcome!

Is it worht it ? DPR seems to think so. I've heard claims of up to 20 hp at the wheels (although I think thats on the high side) for an H22. I've seen +12 on a dyno.

a stock H22 head flows nearly the same as the stock F20 S2K head

anyone have a dyno of before and after when they did a port/polish? That's the only real way to know if it was worth your $$ or not.

DPR used to have some before and after for the H22 on his website for the longest time. I email one of the guys who had work done on his H22. He got something like 14 hp before he blew up his motor.

Is it worth it, probably not. On the race car, we put 650whp on a stock head. The only thing we put on were valvesprings, retainers, seals, and valves.

Maybe not for you (running forced induction), but if you ask the Formula Honda team that was running a 4th Gen Prelude (NA) in the Motorola Cup series, they'd tell you it was well worth it.

Just tell Dan (DPR) that Scott from Formula Honda sent you

i agree with SpoonDC4.. get the cams and stuff first and then p&p~ you'll feel a better more comfortable difference~ plus.. getting a street port on your car would decrease your gas mileage.. i think you want the stuff to give you the performance.. before you port and waste gas~

When i had my Prelude Si i didnt get it dont by Portflow but my father did it for me while rebuilding my motor. The power band and everything felt smooth but bottom end felt mooshy and didnt feel any of the gains until i put the header on, 100 Octain gas and advanced the timing on the distributor all the way, then it was power all over the place. 1/4 time went from average of 15.2-15.0 @90/92's to a 14.7-14.6 @ 94/95's (h23a nonvtec). This is just from my experience, It was worth it to me.. I'm thikin bout sending my B20b head to portflow thistime though. Good luck man
