My hatch is acting up a little. Everytime i take my foot off the accelerator and then start to accelerate I hear a Pop sound. The car seems to be backfiring.

I've heard this is because of my Distributor not being centered. I adjusted it but it still happens (not as much as it used to but its still happening)

what is your timing set to? also are you throwing any codes?

 

I do have a check engine light
but thats because I'm missing the oxgen sensor

Is it only throwing one code? The ECU will store them in succesion IE: If your throwing code 45, make sure the MIL indictor does the same sequence back to back. If not, write down all of your codes. I've seen a 71, 72, 73 and 74 (random misfire) hide behind the 45 ( too rich / too lean) Is the pop sound coming through the IM? If so, it could be a lean situation. Backfire, too rich, popping, too lean.. By the way, why would you drive around with the CEL on. If its a factory ECU, that puts it in safety mode.
