Default Pistons: JDM VS. USDM

I have base 97' lude, and I was wondering if there would be any benefit (e.g. gains in whp?) in swapping out my USDM pistons for JDM Prelude type S pistons? Does anyone know the compression ratio/difference between both? Also, is this a simple swap? Meaning am I going to have to buy anything else or modify something in order to do this swap? I realize I would have to take it to a shop. Also, am I fine with 92 octane?

Hey thnx!

One more thing though, what are my gains over the stock setup?? And can I use the factory wrist pins and piston rings, because the guy I am getting them from said that he is selling only the pistons, no rings or anything else. He is saying $260, what do you say?

In my opinion if your going from stock USDM to stock JDM pistons its not worth the money your going to spend to have the work done. The little bit of gain you get for the price isn't worth it. If your going to change your pistons you should atleast get an aftermarket piston and raise your compression if your going all motor. Just must .02 cents.
If your bored and have money to burn, go ahead and install stock jdm pistons.

I see your point, but they aren't just jdm prelude pistons, they are for the jdm type s. The thing with the aftermarket ones, is that I would have to get my cylinder heads resleeved and ported for proper clearance. I think that would cost a whole lot more, then just simply swapping the jdm ones, right?

first of all, correct me if im wrong b/c i read this on another webpage about h22a's... to fit the type-s pistons, u need to bore the cylinders out 2mm (i think) and will need new rings and pins... but it isnt a direct swap.. look up the specs on the h22a type s n the USDM h22a
