Piston and rod installations
i just bought new JE pistons and crower rods for my b16a. can i change it myself or shud i take it a professional. i have all the euipment including engine lift. what do u guys recommend? isnt it just a few nuts an dbolts to deal with after removing the engine?
um sure, its alot more than that your going to have to get the bearing codes then plastagauge all the bearings and torque them down to specs. and then file the rings down and blah blah blah if that sounds easy to you go for it! if your not sure u can do it dont attempt it. let shop do it so u can point your finger at someone else other than your self if something goes wrong

Me and my friend did an engine rebuild with only a crappy Haynes manual and email.
Its not that hard to do if you have the manual and can consult with someone who's done it before. I think if you post questions here, people will answer them for you.
The few things I needed was a VERY clean workspace and time. And don't underestimate how "hard" it maybe. I think its more tedious and time consuming more than anything else...

How do you find out what code bearings you need, I'm buying the eagle rods and JE pistons for my B18B, Honda/Acura has the bearings in like every color so how do you know which to buy...is it something you have to do with the motor taken apart or can i know which ones to buy before hand?....What is that plastagauge thing all about and what are you talking about the rings and stuff?....I'm doing this myself and need to know as much info. as possible....thanks
If you have an engine crane, then USE IT! Hehe...or give it to me. I know that some people have gotten them in with the motor still in the car, though the workload is harder/longer. It may be worth it if you don't want to remove the engine. You should hone th ecylinder walls too, which may be possible with the motor in the car.

the rebuild job shouldn't be that hard. its all bolt on and stuff. the important part is just got to make sure you place the rings at the right place, putting the bearings at the right spot, botl it down to the right spec and etc.

it should be pretty straight foward if you know what your doing, make sure you use the rubber booties for the rod bolts so that you don't knick the crankpin when installing/removing the rod(s). installing the piston onto the rod is where you want to be careful with, assuming it will be full floating the piston pin should slide through the piston and rod bushing easily, the piston pin hole in the piston is offset, so the piston pin has to offset to the side of the cylinder opposite of the crankpin on the power stroke. the rod oil hole should face the intake manifold if it has it( don't remember if the vtec rods have them or not)
