Piston Ring Gap Location
i came across some info that states the top 2 ring gaps should be on the intake side of the piston. the helms however doesn't indicate that. just wonderin if i'm alright to have the top 2 ring gaps on the exhaust side while having the 3 oil ring gaps on the intake side. thanks for the help
There is a good sheet somewhere on this site that has a perfect diagram of where to place your rings, ill explain it the best i can...
Top compression ring gap should be on the 2 oclock of the piston
Second compression ring gap should be around 10 oclock
the 3 oil scrapers should be with in 15 degrees of each other around the 7 oclock area.
Ring gaps should never be inline with The primary or secondary thrust sides or the wrist pin.

yes i'm aware of what you stated sander. i was wondering if it made a difference in terms of which side of the piston you consider 12 o'clock (IN or EX) when gapping the rings.

There is probably NO one way to do it. I stagger the rings so they are never on top of each other and never at the 12, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock postions. Top ring can be at 2 and the second ring should be directly opposite. Oil rings at 5 and 11
I'd stagger the compressionrings 180 degrees apart and the oil rails alt least 90 degreas.
the rings rotate when the engine is runnigng anyways, so they wont stay lined up.
