Default Piston Design....

Hey im getting ready to order super big bore pistons for my GSR project... Im going to be running 86mm 12.1 CR pistons... The Question i have is im getting them custom made and they want me to tell them what design i want??? Now i know that CTR style pistons are super i compression but what about ITR style?? Im just so confused... If anyone can help that would be awesome.....

The prelude pistons has same design as the ITRs piston....

customs will be expensive, why do you want to go with a bore that big?

Make sure you research problems with roundness, when you have the sleeves so thin they don't stay round, and you suffer from excessive blow by.

I don't know what the limit is on B-Series motors though.

im pretty sure you can get some ib spec wisecos that are not super hard to get

look at the bottom of the page
http://importbuilders.com/pistons.html

you really need to post up more info about your setup. its not even that clear what your question is.

and the lame tard who said get toda, they most likely dont make a 86mm for b series

Okay im building a GSR bottom end right now... I have Darton sleeves and Eagle rods.... I havnt gotten pistons yet because DH-Racing.com said i would need to know what kinda design i want for the pistons... Now i really dont care what they look like as long as i got 12:1.1 CR... Thats all i care about so why should i have to tell them what i want them to look like?

The combustion chamber design dictates what piston design you have. If you are using a head with a unmodified combustion chamber then you could use a stock style piston. If someone has welded up your head & clover leafed it then you will need a different piston design.

dude you are really too deep into this. first mistate is going with dh-racing.

cancel your order with them and find someone else to go with.

im not sure why you are going with them but i would strongly recomend going with someoen else. there are better companies out there that can build you an engine.

well it depends upon your area.
portflow.com for headwork. reliable, fair pricing and proven performance.
call earl or bensons for engine work. or call will @ exospeed.com for work as well on your engine.

its just that dh racing in my opinion isnt nearly all that great and there work isnt worth the price.

on a piston design, I'm assuming this is an all motor application.

You have to find out what the specs of your cam, lift/duration to design a piston to fit your setup.

but my concern is why such a big bore with a low 12:1 compression. the only time you should be going bigger than 84mm, is for MAX power and race applications. and at that point, compression should be in the 13:1+ range.

I guess what we really want to know first is:
What is your goals for the motor?
What is it going to be used for?

I recommend spending money on books and alot of reading first ....it just doesnt seem like you really know what you're getting yourself into...its nice and dandy to run in the 12s...everybody wants that....but 230whp on a gsr aint gonna run you in the 12s buddy....need to read and find out what combination works and yada yada yada....
