Default Piston to Deck Height?

If you had a short block and placed a flat plane over it, is this how much room is between the top of the piston and the plane? So for example the B18C1 block is listed @ thirty thousands this is how much room there is there? I'm basically trying to figure out my compression here. I would like to use a B18C1 block, B16A2 head, PR3 USDM B16A pistons, OEM head gasket, and then if I am correct on the piston to deck height thing of .030 this should give me roughly an 11.1:1 ratio. Am I correct? Thanks.

Here's a cool page for you...if you check the web theres a bunch of calculators for figuring compression ratio as long as you have the data

It's the distance between the edge of the piston and the top of the block. It's not the distance between the highest point on the dome to the top of the block.

using your parts listed above, gives you a compression ratio of approximately 11.117502420750778:1

I see. So would pistons have an effect on this or not? The comp calculator lists B16A/B's as .020" where as all the B18's are listed at .030". Basically what I'm trying to do is figure out my compression. Read first post for parts. Wasn't sure if I needed to change the P/D clearence specs, as I was unsure of this measurement. Thanks.

Right this is the comp I got as well which is right where I wanted it, but since I was using USDM PR3's wasn't sure if this changed the P/D height or not but from what I am being told it doesn't. I hope I have this right.

well, using the B16A p/d height it comes out to 11.4:1

im pretty sure it takes all factors into account

(problem is i can't answer your p/d question at all!)

So roughly 11.1:1 - 11.4:1. That is right about where i wanted to be between 11-11.5:1. Good deal.

Jimmy - who needs some TQ.
