I've had this problem for about 4 months and I try to ignore but it's getting worse.
It's a 94 rs 60k(stick) Whenever i start to move off after a stop, i hear a light pinging metallic noise. It sound like it's from underneath. I tried to ignore it because it sound just like somthing is loose. But the other day when i was at a stop sign, it started to take off and the noise was there, but this time it was loud as hell(well not that loud). It scared the hell out of me. So it stopped again and took off slowly and i heard it again. After that, I kept trying to show my dad the noise but it went back to the tiny "ping, ping , ping"! Please help, any suggestions welcome.

 

Hey Teken, thanks for the reply. I sure that it's not detonation. The only mods I have is a CAI, hence the name BlkBeast! sorry, anyways, I don't think it's coming from the engine either, sounds like it's below the engine or me. It does sound like metal to metal contact, very light contact. Anymore details? I don't know what else to say, I treat my car like my child. Please someone give me some ideas. It's only in first gear when the car starts moving. I never hear it any other time.

 

You might try removing your exhaust heatshields. These are often known to vibrate, causing annoying noises...
