PHANTOM GRIP
search, its been covered in some good threads. Look around the road racing forums..
THe general feedback is that people who have experience with them say they don't work the greatest, and wear out pretty fast.
I've never used one, myself. Just reporting that.

definately save and get a real lsd- not only does the phantom grip not work very well, but it buts uneven wear and stress on trannys and breaks them eventually<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by AGGRESSIVEDA9 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">DAMN IM NOT BEAT I READ TO MANY BAD THINGS JUST THIS MORNING IMA SAVE AND GET A DIFF</TD></TR></TABLE>
All a phantom grip really does is put friction between the spider gears so that both wheels will turn instead of just one. Yes technically it is an LSD, but time has told many phantom grip buyers that it wasn't worth the money they spent. Go with a Quaife.

Here's an update on mine. It's working great now, no more pegleg.
I guess there is some amount of break-in required that isn't mentioned in the directions that came with it.

All the thing does is press on the spider gears, and after extended use, it becomes weak and the pressure applied to the spider gears drops. Then you're left with an open differential again. I'd try to find a Type R tranny or even better a Quaife (unlimited lifetime warranty).
2 years and counting on my PG....
my buddy has had his on his turbo integra for almost 3 years if i recall correctly...
read up on the different springs available and be advised this isn't meant for road racing or autocrossing, it's strictly drag racing oriented. People road racing and autox'ing with them is what has given them a bad name over the years.

I think it worked good upon launch but left a lot to be desired in the corners</TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah. definatly not designed for the corners... drag racers love it, road racers/autox'ers, etc hate them... people that just enjoy driving like a bat out of hell everyday like it until it's time to get crucially crazy in a turn

Had the phatom grip in the gsr tranny for almost 2yrs now. Been at the track three times and ran down the quater mile a total of 30 times. Daily driver to school which is 30 miles away also. The phantom ggrip really doesn't grip if the car has alot of horse power I haven't tried their stiffer spring insert but liabilty I haven't had a problem so far.
ive used the phantom grip, had a stock type r tranny, and a quaife. all in road racing. the quaife is good, the phantom grip is good, the stock type r tranny sucked under road racing situations. ive tried all 3, most of the guys on here havent, for the money its good, but like most of us,you'll probably upgrade which means you'll opt for the quaife later on. which is an upgrade to the phantom grip.

I've had mine for 5 years, no problems. I would say, if you want the best explanation of their functionality, call John Brown @ Turismo Technologies who makes the item. They are functional, however, I would not recommend them for heavy, constant road-racing or autocross type use.
