Default P72 vs Pr3 head ?

Anybody done a head to head (no pun intended) dyno comparison between the GSR head and the Type-R/B16 head on the same block? Just curious.

yup
ull notice that the stock GSR head puts out more power then the pr3 head
1 large factor is the more agressive cams that you get vs stock b16
notice i say b16, not type R
Another thing, on any block u put a GSR head onto, its going to yeild a higher compression ratio due to the smaller combustion chambers, 41.60 cc's of displacment vs a pr3's 42.70, more compression = more power. Mind you... you can just mill a pr3 head aswell.

take a pr3 type R head and its a totally different story

which head is better?

Depends how much money you throw into it... in short, pr3=designed for high rev application, will make more power up top. p-72 will make more torque.

You can argue over this alot, it all depends how you look at it and how you mod it. The design is totally different, the combustion chambers on GSR's are design'd totally different then PR3, along with the dual stage intake manafold. The valves are also shorter, 31mm vs 33mm.

In end, which one is better?
If you plan to build it, i'd say pr3
If you plan to leave it stock, gsr
The difference isnt really that huge.
Once again this is my opinion, im sure people will say im stupid and say long live GSR GSR=GOD etc and im sure some will agree
anyway, i hope this helps

I meant to compare heads with the same cams and similar IM's-ITR on a PR3 head vs Skunk2 manifold on GSR head. Give the GSR head the edge on CR, but how much different will they flow? I know that they have been flowbench tested, but what is the difference in the real world?

this is what i've been wondering. the vavletrain and compression ratios are easily altered by other means (skunk2 or itr manifold, milling or different cams....) but the actual design for the combustion chamber and the flow of the ports....i've yet to hear anyone give specifics on this.

Somebody posted flowbench tests on both heads once and they had virtually identical numbers.

I personally like the GSR head better..... I just like the dual stage manifold... The only way I would use a GSR head is what that manifold... I hate the SK2 ones because they just look like they are made crappy... With a PR3 head I would swap an ITR manifold on and that would be cool too.. Anyways that's just my opinion about the too..

I have seen flowbench tests:
http://www.alaniztechnologies.com/b16vsgsrflowtest.html
I was curious about actual dyno comparisons. If no one has done a head to head dyno comparison, I might just do one myself. Dyno one head in the morning, do a head swap, and then dyno the other. Same cams, same block, comparable intake manifolds. What head is Erick Aguilar running? He is running the GSR intake manifold, so is he running a P72 head ? These questions interest me. Inquiring minds want to know.

That's what i originally thought.... It's really a PR3 with a conversion plate so that they can run the GSR manifold... Pretty tight ****!!!

PR3 head ? I wonder what advantage the GSR intake manifold has over a Type-R, Skunk2, or the JG one?

what is so special about the gsr intake manifold? it has always been my understanding that the itr manifold was a MUCH better piece.

Their manifold is totally gutted and I'm not sure but most likely port matched and extrude honed... Like i said I still like the look of the B18C manifold the best.. ITR is next inline and then maybe 96+ SOHC DX is cool.. hehe
