P30s or P73s?
First off i just want to say Hi. My name is Devon and its one of my first times on honda-tech. To start off with i have a 98 GSR that my boyfriend helped me to get. It had 101,000 miles on it but i got it for a good deal. My boyfriend says im burning oil through the piston rings. Now i want to rebuild the bottom end anyways and was just wondering what pistons i should go with? What is the compression going to be like with both? P30s or should i just go Type Rs? He thinks i should go P73s but i just want to get more Info on the whole situation. He is a Tech at Acura and everything he tells me just goes right over my head. haha so if anyone can help me it would be awesome. Thanks alot...

Listen to him, he is right. And BTW I think it's pretty cool that you want to learn this stuff and build your engine! Most girls... as a matter of fact, most people in general only want to drive their car and never learn what makes it go!
to you!
BTW: Listen to your boyfriend! At least on car stuff... heh

Thanks alot. Most of the time people just want to make fun of me and tell me its a waste. I like it though. Its fun. He has a set of CTR pistons he isnt using but tells me compression will be way to high in my car.. He says anything over 12.5 compression is to high for 93 oct. gas??? Any usfull info on that?
Yeah, hes right about PCT's Too much unneeded compression; for more info on this read the 1st thread on the all motor forum.

Hmm this sounds too familiar...
I think your B/F recently emailed me and asked CTR pistons in a B18C....
check your IM..
btw, welcome to HT

Im sorry one more question and i promise ill leave you alone. Is there a diff. in compression from the usdm p73 and the JDM p73?

yes there is.
JDM ITR engine's put out 11.1cr , US puts out 10.6cr.
the JDM ITR pistons have a higher dome compared to the US ITR pistons. Check out my old piston page here for B-series piston information/comparisons:

i think that if you are going to be running your car on the street as a daily driver...you should stick with the p73 pistons...my friends running ctr piston on his gsr block and im' running jdm itr pistons on mines and his likes to back fire every so often and mine does fine...the reason is compression...higher compression builds more heat and you need higher octane to keep it cool to reduce engine knock...
