overbore of b18 throttle body
i work on airplanes and theres a machine shop down the hall from me. i have a skunk2 itm wich is 64mm, i can have them bore it to 64 to match but its not the kinda thing they normally do (they dont normally do cars). what do i need for this? new throttle plate? basically i was just gonna have them bore it to 65mm tapered to 64mm. can i reuse the old plate and lower the idle to account for the extra air when the throttle is closed? id take it to a mechanic but basically this would only cost me a 12pack of busch and they have a full machine shop...
im thinkin i can make one outa sheet metal worst case scenario. just make a 64mm circle and tap it or just put nuts on the back to make sure it wont go anywhere. will this mess up my idle though, ive heard of people boring out their tb and having idle problems. its for a 98
is all i need a new throttle plate? i think the legend throttle plate is 64mm so i could use one of those or can i get away with sheetmetal. reason im concerned is im gonna be runnin boost soon so i dont want somethin flimsy.
I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself if you don't have much machining experience. Butterfly plates are not perfectly symmetric. At idle, the plate doesn't sit exactly perpendicular to the air flow. It is rather angled back for better throttle response, yet it keeps a tight seal. In order to machine this, the plate has to be slightly oval. For example (64mm x ~66mm). Raver Motorsports did a nice job on mine.
