Over revving issue
So I went to take my civic for some servicing, new spark plugs and what-not, also to see if they could fix an issue I have when shifting. Basically, sometimes when I shift to the next gear and accelerate, or just accelerate even after being in gear, it will continue to rev up, and then a couple seconds later it will rev down to where it should be.
The mechanic thought it may have to do with some clutch timing, but that didn't end up being the issue, and the only thought he had as to what it may be is an aftermarket Injen Tech air intake that was installed in the car before I bought it.
Could this be the issue? If so, would an OEM intake fix it? If not, what are some ideas of what this could be?

Any info? What year, how many miles? And no an aftermarket intake won't cause this. Are there any fluid leaks you're aware of? I don't like jumping to conclusions but it sounds like clutch slippage.
Sounds like textbook clutch slipping/starting to go out. The clutch disk is basically brake material. Over time it wears out and you gotta replace the clutch disk just like when the brakes go out.
The last car I had was a cable clutch in a 91 civic hatchback, so I won't lie by saying I've been kind to this clutch. I do burn it more then I should. How do I know when the clutch really needs to be replaced? Is this pretty much the symptoms of when I should start thinking about it?
