Default OT: Painting Rims

I'm posting this in the competition board because I'm looking for a cost effective method that will hold up in autoX. I have some white Kosei K-1 that I really want black. I have tried sanding the surface and sprayed them with High Temp spray paint but the paint still seems to chip off. Should I break down and get them powder coated? I heard a few concerns that the heat from powder coating can weaken wheels. I would like to try as many forms of self-painting as I can because I can always have a shop strip and paint them in the end.

Maybe an adhesive or primier coat might help. Just a thought.
