Opinnions on 5W20
Any of you have any opinnions on the new 5W20 oil that Honda wants us to use in the new cars. I know that Ford began to use it as well. In my opinnion its a little too thin. I don't want to have to rebuild the motor after 5yrs. What do you all think. Should I switch to 5W30? Any opinnions???? The car is driven by my mom so it never sees more than 3000rpm- that is unless I drive it.
Do you want to keep your factory warranty? Use 5W-20. If not, use whatever you like. Apparently Honda is saying anything more than 5W-20 is too viscuous to flow properly into the areas with tight tollerances. Maybe, but I don't want to risk a burned crank bearing to prove them wrong. FWIW, I've been using the recomended 5W-30 in my '90 Civic Si since day one. I now have over 239,000 miles on it with no oil consumption or other engine issues to complain about.
i think honda wants you to use 5W20 because you cant buy it in any other store other than maybe the honda parts department at your local dealer..........last time i went to the local auto parts store they had every grade imaginable except for 5W20.
