Default Opinions on My motor...

Alright, this motor is going to be my somewhat reliable motor of the two i have...I have a b18a block that has been honed at the stock bore of 3.189...Now being a street engine i was planning on running some jdm itr pistons, and some jdm itr cams w/ cam gears. The head is a b18c1 gsr head that has skunk2 valvetrain w/ all new valves. All together i have seen this generic setup net about 170whp. Now i was planning on running about a 50 shot from the zex kit. Now my ?'s are, should i save some more money and get some forged pistons...and would they work with the stock rods...should i be looking into some forged rods? if so can they work w/ the itr pistons? I will most likely also be gettin a block girdle from z10 to help me squeeze a few more relaiable revs out of this motor also. Would the ls rods be capable of handling 200+ whp? Im planning on running this on pump gas also at 93 octane. What are your opinions. Would this be an alright setup for a dd and mild use of racing? thanks all input is appreciated. One more thing is should i be looking into arp head suts and rod bolts? thanks again

i have a similar set up with my lsvtec (with out the n20) im my case (all motor) i would most definately get head studs and rod bolts. the ls rod bolts are not as thick as the vtec ones so i would most definately get the rod bolts because the last thing you want is to spin a bearing or throw a rod out the side of your block. but i would also like to say that you dont NEED these things, but i would not be caught dead with out these rod bolts in a built motor.

Alright, well maybe i didnt clarify it enough of my concerns. I was worried that a itr pistons and the n20 would be to much for the somewhat brittle itr pistons. The head studs and rod bolts have now been added to the must buy list....btw have you dynoed that? what are you puttin down for numbers?

get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and maybe an aftermarket pump to make it safer with the N02. At least look into it.

Ya the basic fuel upgardes arew already considered...although the plans have changed..ill be getting all arp rod bolts and head studs, eagle h beam rods, some forged pistons which i have yet to choose...Then im planning on buying a mani for the t25 turbo i just got off a friend for free and do at the turbo goodies and run about 7-8 psi tuned by a hondata or possible uberteg's chip...any more input on what compression i should run for the pistons, which piston are good, and any other input. Thanks

I would say, becasue your running low boost, to go with a 9.5:1 piston.

hybird, even if i want to eventually boost to say 15lbs? Im looking to make my bottom end solid w/o sleeving due the costs etc...btu eventually it will get sleeved and run higher boost than 6-7psi. I just would like to know your opinion on why no girdle, they put it in a gsr for a reason...why not a ls/vtec that will be subjected to and maybe more stressed due to the rod ratio. Thanks for the input on the pistons, 9.5 is a little low dont you think? The gsr's are 10.1 and this block has about 34 more cc's of volumne. When its tuned do you think that 9.5 is better. Im looking to plan into the future also of boosting 15+ psi when i sleeve the block...neways more input = better decision making tools

you dont need it thats why... it just an extra thing you shouldnt spend money on. i work at a local shop and we're tight with Inline Pro, where i get my motor stuff done. i am building a crucial allmotor lsvtec and they have run many many setups without girdles...

Mine's not going to be all motor, its going to be boosted!!! It's not all the expensive either...to buy a new girdle and get it machine for like 50-100 bucks isnt all that much for a little reassurance, i was wondering why you were so blunt about not having it...any other resources besides your own n/a motor? thanks for the input!
