Default Opera S2000-ish setup questions

For those that don't know what I am talking about, this is what I am thinking of doing to my car.

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/ind...26013

I was wondering what steps he took after drilling the holes, because I know it is more complex than taking a holesaw to your car. Did he just use a chamfer bit and chamfer the holes, or did he actually flare them out with some sort of a die??

Thanks

You want to swiss cheese your car?

Yeah some of those holes look like they have been Dimpled.

The tool you will need is either called a flare or dimple die.

They also use them for counter sinking holes for flush rivets.

If you ever get to look up close at an airplane you will see that the they drill holes and flare them to save weight and retain structural integrity at the same time.

How would I flare a hole with one of those if the part couldn't be removed from my car, or if it wouldn't fit on a "bench press" like for instance, the inside of my door.

Allot of those parts were fabricated off of the car. Then welded to it.

You can also use the stamp like you would a bushing press.
Here is a photo to help you visualize.

Well, I figured a bunch of the parts were done off of the car, but I can't imagine how some of them would be, like the inner fender which is part of the unibody. But that tool in the picture you posted makes a lot of sense.

Where would I get something like that??

Also, for past of the car that I couldn't get to the backside of, could I hammer on the back of one of those dies to get the hole to flare out??
