Default Open Header

What does that mean?

Just the header and no downpipe?

The header and downpipe? What?

I always thought it was just the header with no downpipe or anything. Put i just started my car with no o2 sensor in the hole, and it loud as fawk. I didnt even drvie it, just cold idled for like 5 secs. It also sounds retarted as well. i dont know how some if you guys can drive like that

To have your car's engine run with the exhaust manifold bare, rendering it obnoxiously loud, according to rice boy standards.

The idea of running your car, preferably a hot rod open header, is to increase performance, lessen the strain on the engine, make it sound louder and more macho, as well as to impress your friends.

Unless your attending a open header contest with other like gearheads, removing any of the above components is ILLEGAL as stated by the DMV. But at least this definition gives you something about exhaust and performance.

"Bling a Ding Chong" thought that by sawing off his catalytic converter on his slick green rice rocket, he can beat Mary Anne on her pink 72 Chevelle. But instead, he serves jailtime with fellow burly prison rapist Tyrone Smith after flipping off a police officer.

open header means you remove the exhaust after the header, and of course its loud, you have no means of sound dampening. unless your car is a dragster or you like it when ur ears bleed there is no need to run open header(s) on the streets

ILcrxsi's crx with almost 250hp is running open downpipe. we went to the dragstrip one day almost 2hrs away from here, and he ruined the tranny, we had no 5th gear coming back, going across the intersate 55-60mph at 4,500rpm open downpipe in a crx for 2 hours? i hope i never have to do that again.

When my car was boosted I bottomed out on a driveway & busted the exhaust.

Didn't have access to a welder so I was running around with an open DP for nearly 2 months. Wasn't too bad, granted I think the turbo muffled the exhaust quite a bit.

Exhaust cutouts are the best of both worlds IMO, for certain setups. I'm surprised you don't see more cars with those on H-T.

I came home from Colorado on Christmas eve to find that the exhaust on my 1990 Accord literally fell off. I was in a big hurry to get up north, had no way of actually lifting the car to fix it, and it was a damn blizzard outside, so I just took the right angle grinder to it and cut it off. It is louder than ****.

Try it on your truck When I bought my Work ram, lets just say it was nowhere near as clean as yours I drove from Fredrick back to my house, about 1-1/2 hours on an open dp due to rust. I seriously couldn't hear anything for about 3 hours after I got back.

I remember a thread on here where some guy made some kind of valve that he could open by pulling on a wire in the cabin that would open up the valve to make it into a open header.

ya thats an old rat rod myth, thus why you see skinny *** pipes in some of the older hot rods ( they thought it made more power)

and it's also horrible for a forced induction car, IE why people run blow off valves, and waste gates. otherwise they wouldnt bother. if they WANTED back pressure then remove the blow off valve and remove the wastegate..........

and if you take the theory of back pressure, then shoving a tennis ball in your exhaust or running an O-loop would be the greatest modification ever
