I have seen a couple Volvos in person that had 1,000,000+ miles. Stock internals. I wanna say one never had the head off either.

I did a headgasket on one of the B230 volvo motors with over 200k on it and it still had a nice crosshatch pattern on the cyl walls. Solid motors those sweeds throw together

I think you should leave the motor how it is for at least 500,000 it can take it easily if it's all fine now. Maybe just do front and rear seals, no HG?

Sorry Daxy, I think it's been done with Honda's... I can't tell you where or what, but there's an older Civic (no ****) that crossed the million mile mark last year sometime. Who knows... I heard it on the radio. Apparently he's still on the original engine (I don't know if that's rebuilt or what)...

He's gone through two transmissions, a few starters, two alternators, a few other wear and tear items but it's still cranking it out...

A freind of mine had a 4g Prelude with 348,000miles on it that was runing strong until he chipped it against my advise and he belived the guy when he told him he could rev it to 8500 allday stock.! It blew the weekend after.

I thnk you'll just have to bhe extremly gentle on the engine all the time to increase its life. But if its been done before then it looks like your going to have to keep this car till 2040 when you have 2million miles on it. lol

Do you really think I shouldn't touch the motor for that long, even with my oil consumption? I'm pretty sure I'm burning it and not leaking it...if I get on it I get a nice cloud of black smoke. I guess that would make sense though...as long as it's still getting excellent mileage and as long as I keep oil in it, it should be fine.

the most i've ever seen was an 89 LX civic sedan at the junkyard. I pulled the cluster from it which read 384,XXX and the car was hit by a semi truck or a large truck and so the engine still ran.

I bought an 88 CRX HF parts car one time, and the odometer read 208,000 miles. the owner said they bought it brand new for their daughter in 1988, and it finally blew becuase she never changed the oil. locked up solid. the oil in the crankcase looked like bearing grease. Hard to belive it would last 200,000 miles..

I have an 89 DX hatch with D15B2 engine. It is an amazing car from an economical/reliable standpoint. I just crossed over the 220,000 mile mark about a month ago. Tranny shifts smooth, no grinds whatsoever and appears to be undisturbed (never worked on). Which leads me to believe the clutch is also original and still has a good feel to it. Engine runs smooth, burns about a quart of oil every 300-400 miles and leaks a little bit of it. I recharged the A/C and it has been working good now for three months, also had to replace a relay, fuel filter, and both axels. I hope you make it to a million miles, the way I beat on mine it will be lucky if it makes it to 300,000.

My friends 89 accord has 386,XXX miles on it right now, and it has never had any engine work done to it, its mostly highway miles...

I know hondas can go 1,000,000 miles. I have never seen a car so reliable...

Mercedes and Volvo are proven...but I believe Honda is right up there in the same ballpark...that's what I'm out to prove.

Yeah, mine burns that quart of oil every tank of gas also...I guess I'm going to just keep driving it then and not worry about the rebuild until it is eminent. Man, now I'm all psyched to go put on the miles...maybe I'll drive out of state this weekend.

I'm trying 20w-50 oil in it now to see if it helps with the oil burning. It doesn't seem to burn quite as much and since I'm in FL I don't have to worry too much about running thick oil.

Wouldn't you know it, right before a road trip this weekend my speedometer cable broke, and I was unable to log a little over 500 miles. Oh well. Yesterday replaced the broken cable, machined the rotors and installed new brake pads, added a passenger door mirror from an LX, replaced my broken trunk reflector, and upped from 10W-30 oil to 10W-40. If that still burns like hell, I'm stepping up to 20W-50.

If its burning oil that bad already i dont think your gonna make it to the 500,000 mile mark but might as well give it a shot and see what it can do. Its going to be the most reliable with the stock, untouched bottem end. The only prob if your rings are shot ur gonna have to tear everything apart for new ones.

I would just go to the 20w-50 now, dont even bother with the 10-40 its not much diff. If its consuming that much oil i would just go to the thick stuff right away and if u live where its cold, def let it warm up for a min or so before u start driving it.

Another adversary u must deal with is rust. Is the car rusted anywhere?? Def dont let that build up. Alot of cases with the old hondas, the drivetrain is still ok but the body is rusted beyond repair. This doesnt happen as much with the euros.

I live in GA...rust is rarely a problem on vehicles here.

I don't mind tearing down the bottom end if that's what it needs. For the time being I'm going to drive it like it is, until it either dies or doubles it's oil consumption. If it needs a rebuild, I'll rebuild it, then keep stacking on the miles. An engine rebuild is not going to stop me from reaching 1 x 10^6 miles.

Hmm...your's is a 90 w/ 209k miles on it.

Mine is a 97 w/ 158k miles on it.....

Your's = 14928.57 miles per year.
Mine = 22571.42 miles per year.

If we do it that way, I WIN! But I swapped engines about 5 k miles ago so I guess I am out.

i cant verify for sure if this is true but i have heard a few times about some guy that went 700,000 miles on his civic with just regular maintenance and his local honda dealership thought it was so amazing they gave him a brand new car for free and put his on display

Youre going to have a shitty life if you plan on driving 50,000 miles a year

I already do drive nearly 50K per year...and my life is far from shitty.

Read my first post...I have a turbocharged Civic already...this one is staying bone stock.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 97mini-me &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hmm...your's is a 90 w/ 209k miles on it.

That's a neat way to run the numbers, but last year I put over 44K on my Civic...way more than what you have calculated. Remember, I bought the car 3 months and 10K miles ago. The slow going of the first 200K miles were due to previous owners.

The accord you heard of is true, the guy was some sports writer and he put like 1,300,000 miles on this 94-97 accord, and they had a list of all the t-belts and clutches he replace along the way.
Also i worked on this car when i worked for honda, it was a '92 cx civic hatch and had 385,xxx miles on it! The car's body was trashed but the motor had a 30k service every 30k, sometimes sooner.

You might want to run some Amsoil in there, it will protect far better than any other oil, and allow you to run some very extended OCIs while still protecting you engine.

I run Amsoil ASL 5w-30, Recommend OCI with this oil is 23k miles, or 1 year. In my racing engine i'll be changing every 8-10 months.

Might want to do some UOAs too...
