Default oil type prefered

i have a 99 si (b16a2) with 29,000 mile on it. i bought it with moble 1 in it so i continued to use it until i checked the oil the other day. didnt even register on the dipstick, and found out that many people here have problems with oil consumption with the b-series and moble 1 synthetic. i tried 5w-30 and 10w30 and it is still consuming it. where the hell does it go, the exhaust is black, not blue and my bumper is covered with soot after about a week of moderate driving. my main question is can i go back to conventional oil (valvoline 10w-30) without having problems. sorry for the long post, just wanted to give you the whole story so it makes it a easier diagnosis, thanks!

What was described to me by a mechanic is that yes you can go back to regular oil. You just don't want to be switching between the two every single oil change.
