I put in an new oil pump last week and just got my in-car pressure gauge hooked up today. At idle (750 rpm) my old pump was around 20 psi and the max I ever saw was around 60 psi. The new pump idles (around 1000 rpm) 35-40 psi and maxes out at 80 psi.

Is this normal for a brand new pump. I did take it apart and check the clearences and it was all on the tight side of spec.
