Default Oil Plug Won't Come Off...

I'm trying to do an oil change and the plug was obviously overtightened...I've sprayed it with PB Blaster twice and still nothing...Any ideas? Besides taking it to a shop...

When something is that tight make sure you have the correct size socket and a breaker bar handy.

If it absolutely will not turn go buy a map gas portable benzomatic torch and heat it and then try the socket.

Why waste the time, effort, and gas to do something it takes a few minutes to do. If you cant get it off with a breaker bar, then you can go back to the shop who did the last oil change and bitch!.

Because if the threads are damaged in the oil pan and you take it back after words their a lot less likely to fix it. But if you go back saying you couldn't get the drain plug out after they did it then its on them. This is coming from someone who has worked in multiple shops

lolzzzz Thanks fellas. I hit on it for a little, resprayed it, then hit on it some more and I eventually got it off...3 hours later. It's on an Rsx, so there's not alot of room to use a breaker bar under there, but I did manage to use a wrench and get a screw driver through the hole and put my weight into to it and eventually broke. The filter wasn't much easier to get off either...

And this is coming from a person who has RUN multiple shops. Situations like that i'd tell the customer that ill put it in the air and if there is any evidence of the owner tampering with it at all i wouldnt do anything for the customer.

I always use to make my guys or even when i did a LOF use the yellow silicone dot so that when people came back trying to put something on us i can say hey look our seal is broken so you obviously had someone else do it.

Chances are the shop had some young kid do your oil change and he cross threaded it. If it was a big name place like say meinike, midas, monro, jiffy lube, etc they will most likely fix it or replace it.

If it was a mom and pops shop and they dont want to fix it, they dont have to unless you can prove that you did not tamper with it. And i assume your car is modified. That pretty much gets you thrown out of the warranty loop of most shops anyways becuase shop mentality is " if the car is modified the owner is doing his own work too".

Case in point. OP is trying to get drain plug off. He already marked up the plug and if there was silicone on the plug, chances are its gone.

And if a shop does fix it, theyre going to use a self tapping plug with a 10mm mini drain.

I would take it back but dont be surprised if the shop doesnt do anything for you. It could go either way. Good luck man!

Yeahhh...(Car is unmodified BTW) but the drain plug and the filter were both way over tightened...to the point where the outside of the filter was buckling when I was taking it off, and also they didn't put a washer on the drain plug like there should of been...Which means I didn't know it needed one and had to redrain the oil after I had put it in and read that there should be one...lol

Normally there should be one, but to be 100& honest not having one on there isnt going to make the pan leak. My company makes performance oil pans and trust me, the gasket is not priority.

I think it's leaking from the filter...I think I also overtightened it and damaged the gasket...it was dark and I was past my point of caring and was getting ready to leave for vaca the next morning...I won't know 'til Monday when I get a chance to look at it...
