Default oil pan gasket question/problem

Ok im trying to diagnose an oil leak.

the oil pan gasket is protruding and looks semi-warped, is that bad?

everything else is checking out ok (fileter, oil pump) and the pan is the ONLY thing i can think of.

it seems to be leaking oil ALL OVER wich is whats confusing me, its all over the bottom of the pan and the bottom of the alternator bracket (go figure..)

How tight are the pan nuts/bolts? Did you use a torque wrench? Spec is only like 8 ft-lbs because any more than that can distort the gasket.

on my lude, there's an oil filter housing.. behind the piece that the filter screws into is a gasket where it connects to the block... that gasket has been known to blow and leave engines dry. its a 2 dollar o-ring from honda, maybe thats your problem? i dont know if that is in the area of your oil leak. very well could be your pan gasket also... i bought a new one for mine at napa.

wash all the oil off with brake cleaner. then see if it makes it easier to pinpoint the leak

Sonny - pan hasnt been touched in over a year this leak just suddenly came up

steph - the oil filter area is BONE DRY so its nothing to do with that.

SGT - ill try that but i need to replace the pan (stupid drain bolt stripped the threads on the pan but thats a seperate leak. lol damn my car is falling apart )

ive heard people say NOT to use liquid gasket when installing the pan gasket
is this true?

I thought the torque was 9 lbs, and I know when I did mine 9 was to much. So I can't see 8 being much different. So I would just use your judgement.

hah well my pan wasnt stripped (thank god)
the plug was stripped, i compared it to my old d series one and all the threads were rounded.

ive never seen one leak so much... but it appears to be the only thing thats leaking.
