Default offset questions!

hey guys,
i really dont know much about offsets.

the wheel im seriously looking at right now is a 4X100 (honda bolt obviously), its a 17x7.5 with a 40 offset. i am lowered a lowered civic, no camber correction or anything and plan to use 215/40's on this rim. if this offset wrong? or could someone briefly try to explain offests to me?

Cliffs notes: 2000 Honda civic, 17x7.5" rim with 40 offset, WILL IT FIT?
