Hi, it's time once again to clean out the EGR port on my 1999 Honda Odyssey. I figured while I'm at it this time I'd replace the EGR valve. I noticed that the port on my old valve is rectangular and the port on the new one is shaped like a crescent moon, is that a problem? Everything else is the same.....just seems odd they'd do that. Thanks in advance.

 

Post pics. Is the new one aftermarket? If so thats probably why. Is your EGR bad?

 

Yes, it is aftermarket. The van has 130K miles on it and I figured while I had the intake manifold off it would be easy to change. You can see the differences in the pictures on the web page. Some of the valves have the moon shaped opening and others have the full rectangle/square. I bought the one at the top, all say they're for 1999 Odysseys. I may just have to contact the seller....

Honda sent me the kit with the drill bit and plastic "straw" the last time I cleaned it out and it didn't seem to help much.

 

Thats weird, I've done bunches of them and it has always fixed them for me.

 

It lasted about 50,000 miles, which, I guess, isn't bad.
