When I put my OBX lsd in (D series)
I didnt even shim it.
And I have given that thing hell.
Broke a few axles all of them came out easy.
This is also a race car.

axles needed to be rebuilt so i decided to take them out today. got everything apart and driver side axle out with no prob but that ole passenger side didnt want to come out. this is due to a problem with the obx lsd. I applied equal pressure on the top and bottom of the axle and about 15 min later that damn axle was sitting on my garage floor.

so for all the **** obx takes for this problem im here to say its not that big of a problem. took 2 people but only about 15 min of prying. so if this is the thing holding you back from buying this lsd....then dont let it. this problem may not have been fixed yet (although they claim it has) this is proof that its really not that big of a deal.

the lsd is in an h22

I have built plenty of motors and cars, but haven't ever done transmission work.

How have you all learned the guts of our transmissions? Does the Helms do a good job covering all of the parts?

I want to do my own LSD and syncros, but I'm kind of a chicken.

I am in the same situation, does helms cover the internals of the trans? I know my haynes manual doesn't discuss anything inside the trans.

I had a OBX LSD for my D16Z6 for about 6 months, it was awesome considering the price. Too bad the car was stolen. :-(

Yeah I noticed that sparctec has the best combination of low price and high feedback. For that particular model (LSD9200), it looks like it would be cheaper to go directly through the website. I didn't check the website before ordering mine from sparctec through ebay. For my particular model (LSD9000, for b18b) though, ebay is cheaper than the website.

I was going to start disassembling it according to the "how to" for field stripping a d-series model. I guess I'll need a vice to get the bolts out. Is it still necessary to disassemble/reassemble these, or has OBX fixed their assembly problems? If I could somehow verify the washers are arranged correctly without disassembling it, I'd consider having it installed it like it is. When I shake it, it sounds like a jar packed full of marbles. I can't remember if that is normal or if that indicates incorrect washer placement.

i just bought my OBX lsd for my 99 si from sparktec and got it today. took only a week to recieve and im all the way in NY. Packed great and now its just tearing it open to clean it with break cleaner and make sure everything is in there correct. I'm an eBay user, but don't trust all of the negative feedback for this part. Some take 3-4 weks to recieve and that blows! so in my mind, id rather spend an extra $30 and get it faster, and to not have to deal with that ebay **** just incase you didnt get it in the mail cause that happens too. and here's probably the best thread ive ever seen on a walk through for this little project. hope you have much success like i will when im done

Read the description where it says, "Also fits 1999 to 2000 Honda Civic 1.6L DOHC VTEC Si". This is sparktec selling this item through ebay. You can tell from the link "visit seller's store".

I just took mine apart, and only 5 washers so I'm ordering a new set of 6 from McMaster. Here's what one of the washers looked like, with a circular notch out of the edge. Keep an eye out for it.
