OBD2b GSR->obd2a car
I think I have a pretty easy question. I'm somewhat new to import racing but I was just wondering would I had any problems putting a 01 gsr swap into my 97 honda civic ex? I would have the gsr wiring harness to ecu but what I'm concerned about is do the pins match up on the main harness to the car? I found a pretty could deal on this swap and just wanted to figure out what i would be getting into before going through with it.

so how would I go about putting the gsr engine in my ek?

My bad: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1171263 I had a case of "blonde moment" when I posted my answer. Go down to near end of that post and it will show you exactly what is needed for your GSR to EK pinouts and interchangebility.

It means the obd2a ek engine harness is a one piece design where on the obd2b integra it is a two piece design. Meaning you can't use the integra harness on your car. You have to use your existing harness. Now if you had a obd2b car, then both harnesses are interchangeable. Go to that link I provided for you and it will explain alot more in details.

so could I just get a obd2a gsr or 99+ civic wiring harness since they already have the knock sensor in the harness and use that?

the 97 gsr ecu won't plug into a 01 harness will it. Isn't the 97 gsr obd2a so the plugs wont fit into the ecu

From what I can remember 96-98 is considered to be OBD2a... which means that you would have connectors A, C, and D (this is according to sleeperciv's diagram) the B plug on OBD2a systems is for the automatic transmission. OBD2b is present in 99-00 Civics and 99-01 Integras.
To answer your question, if you were to install a 01 GSR into a 97 Civic, you would need a 99-00 civic harness (si harness would be good to save you the trouble of wiring to knock sensor and vtec) or you could use your harness but you would need to get a B connector and rewire it so that the correct wires will match up for that connector. It's a lot of work to be honest with you.
You can't use an Integra harness because like sleeperciv said Integras use two harnesses (1 under the hood and the other smaller one under the dashboard) and it wouldn't match up with the rest of your under dash harness that connects to the remainder of your dashboard.
A 96-98 GSR swap would be much easier to install because it's OBD2a, but I guess you have access to an OBD2b which is why you asked the question in the first place.
For your last question though....I'm affraid I don't follow. I thought you had a 97 civic so if you had a 97 gsr you could use your harness w/ the proper modification and it would plug into one another properly.

All 96-00/OBD2 EK engine harnesses are one piece design
All 96-01/OBD2 DC engine harnesses are two piece design
This mean you cannot use an integra engine harness in a civic chassis or vice versa.
Don't mean to be a hardass but I wish you clicked on that link I provided and this one: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=558245 It will answer ALL of your questions about the wiring.

I'm going to go with the 99 si wiring harness to make things easier and thanks for all your help you guys. thanks for the link too, i did look at it but it's kind of hard to read and understand some of it but I eventually figured it out.
