Default obd2 vs obd1 and mods

ok i always hear talk that obd1 is more friendly to modding than obd2 because obd2 compensates for your mods, leaving your car no faster, if not slower, than stock. is this true or am i on crack? believe it or not i could not turn up anything useful with search. i keep going back and forth as to whether i want to go through with a swap, or sell my gsr and buy another one or a prelude or something. will an obd1 gsr be slower and less receptive to basic mods than my obd1 car was? what about a 96 prelude si or vtec as compared to a 95 prelude si or vtec? i would only add probably an intake, and maybe headers and exhaust or something...would that slow it down, or just not add any power? i test drove a prelude sh in the bay area that had a cold-air, headers, and exhaust, and this thing was slow. i couldn't believe how slow it was! and it's not like i've never driven an sh, i've driven several of them. the car was pretty clean and had only 108k miles. my friend's old sh, which was stock and railed on daily, and i'm talking RAILED on, was much faster than the one with the upgrades. what's the deal? i'm mainly interested in the short-ram just cuz i like the sound of the secondaries opening up.

It's not like it's hard to convert an OBD-2 car to an OBD-1 car if you're really worried about it.

i thought you had to pull the engine and plug sensor holes and stuff? plus, in cali, obd1 conversions are not smog legal.

Nope. All you do is plug in the conversion harness, and plug it into the OBD-1 ECU. And it's just as easy to undo when it comes time for smog.

really? that's all? what about the extra sensors? the obd1 ecu doesn't get pissed off? then why do people do "full obd1" conversions? so the conversion harness goes between the ecu and the plug, you don't have to go into the engine bay? is it just like putting an adapter harness in when you hook up an aftermarket stereo? just as easy as that?

Yep.

They don't do anything.

No, it lacks the pinning and programming to read additional sensors.

Because people are stupid.

Exactly.

...and phateless suddenly discovers what the rest of us have known for years.

oh. tight. thanks a lot i appreciate the help! you'd think i would have come across this in one of the FAQs...

what about a 5th gen lude with a 4th gen vtec ecu? any problems there or same deal? harness adapter + ecu and i'm good to go? i just can't get an sh cuz i'll lose the atts if i go obd1, correct?

hey by the way, Kendall, are you on BARF as well? your screen name looks very familiar.
