Default obd1 code reader/scan tool

Okay after some frustration I am attempting to search this topic again. I am looking for a code reader or scan tool for my p28. i know about the paperclip which is all fine and dandy,(not for me) and I have also seen the more advanced version of this in the code reader cable adapter which does the exact same thing which is flash the cel or light on ecu. What i would like is a straight answer as to A. Is there a scan tool that will supply me with info the same way that the obd2 scan tools will? and B. if you dont know or if there is no such thing please say so. Or purhaps there is a scanner that doesn't operate in the specific ways that the obd2 ones do but are more informative than the cable adapter or paperclip. I want a reliable scan tool that is obd1 freindly

To be honest, I dont think I've ever checked to see if there's a DLC under the dash on pre 95 obd-1 Hondas, lol. If there's a DLC, then simply use a scan tool that's compatible with obd-1 vehicle. The paperclip method is so easy and fast, it just doesn't seem like one would need any other method. Expanded info for the codes that you pull with the paperclip method are all over the net. You would do the same thing with retrieved obd2 codes, or at least that's what I do if Im not familiar with the vehicle, even though my scanner does give a brief description. Good luck with your search.

Honda OBD scanner

That will work for you if you have a laptop to use with it.

You need the HIM (Honda Interface Module) that I linked to and the Honda software in order to get the type of info that your OBD2 reader displays for your OBD1 honda. With that setup then you can read the instantaneous output of all sensors right from the ECU.
