Obd1 b16a problems
hey, no one seems to know what my problem is with my car in the crx forum. i was wondering if maybe you guys could help a bit since i know some of you don't make it over there. thanks for any help

Just as someone already mentioned, you should NEVER have a FLR signal if the thermostat ground is not connected... If it wasn't connected before, I don't know how your pump was working unless it is hardwired in, in which case it wouldn't really make a difference... You say it sounds like it's priming, are you positive you're hearing it because if you hear it you should get even a little gas coming forward... With all the nonOBD-OBDI conversions I've done I've made all the harnesses so I've never got to work with the blown90hatch ones... All the dizzy wiring should be plug and play so there's no reason why you wouldn't have a spark... I read through your other post quickly so forgive me if I missed something but you did have a spark before, right? If not, do you have an OBDI/II distributor? If you can measure the voltage of the blk/yel wire running to the dizzy when your IGN is on second click... Does it have 12V+? If not you first need power, if so then I would try swapping distributors... Also, what ECU are you running and is there another one you could try... Let me know if you can think of anything else and I'll think too... Good Luck
ah thanks for all the great help
what is the flr you talk about.
as of now the thermostat is grounded. hooked a 4g wire from the top of it to one of the old holes where the battery tray hooked to.
when i say i think i hear it priming i hear a sound thats kinda a buzz. like someone is tapping really really fast. faster than possible. and the weird thing is is that when the car is "on" i get no fuel coming forward. but i can unplug the distributor from the harness and take one of those power testers (little screwdriver with the light in it) and while its grounded if i touch any wire from the harness going to the distributor it trips the system and a good pour of gasoline will come pouring out. kinda scary heh.
yes the engine is from an obd1 car so all parts should be obd1.
ill also check the voltage this friday.
and im using a pr3 ecu.
again thanks for all the help.

Okay cool... Just for reference the FLR is the fuel pump relay which is triggered by the ECU... One thing that doesn't seem right to me is the way you have the thermostat grounded (I still don't think it is right)... When i refer to having it grounded I'm talking about the the ring terminal ground that comes off the engine harness (this ground a lot of the vital sensors and is also needed to power up your fuel pump)... It isn't a ground from the chassis to thermo housing, it's simply a place where the ENGINE HARNESS itself gets a ground... If I'm totally wrong about what you have going on here (i.e. your engine harness ground is grounded) then that makes me unsure as to what the problem truely is... If we can't get your problem figured out from this could you possibly take some pics of the thermostat housing and wiring harness in that are, possibly from different angles... Good Luck again
OMG. you know what. there is a ring terminal that is sticking out of my wiring harness that isn't hooked up. holy crap. i thought it went to the starter as a means to get the starter power from the battery. (i relocated my battery so i thought i didn't use that anymore.) so are you saying to hook that part to the thermohousing as the ground or is there a place that is better for this certain ring terminal to be put. i knew i had probably done something stupid. you are the man!
Yea totally remove the grond wire you made from the chassis to the thermostat housing then just bolt up the ring terminal from the engine harness... The engine has it's ground from the tranny and cylinder head which is then transferred through the entire motor... From there any part of the motor can be used as a ground and that's why the ring terminal taps onto it... Try fixing that then let me know if you get fuel forward... If you do then it was probably resting on something before that gave it a ground which allowed your fuel pump to power up...

yeah i have a feeling that the little ring terminal from the harness was resting on something and acting as a ground. this is why i could get gas the week before. then after i rehooked up my thermosensor and made some adjustments im sure i severed that ground and then lost my fuel and spark. im in very high hopes that this is my problem. if it is, everything else should go smoothly engine wise. im so happy now. you have made my 2:40 am morning very happy. thanks again man.
on me for something so silly
on me for something so silly
haha, well it's 12:35AM here in Oregon so it's just about time for me to go to bed... Hope that is the problem and you can get everything up and running... -Adam
