Default Are o2 sensors universal?

I ask this because i jsut did a swap to a b16 (obd1, converted to obd2) and the one in there is jdm and the one from my old motor (d16y8) is usdm.

I had CEL 1 (bad or missing primary o2 sensor) so i put in the one from the old motor and now my car runs like COMPLETE **** under 4grand rpm stutters, sputters, all that fun stuff...

some1 help?

I am not sure on non-OBD but I do know 92+ O2 sensors are universal.
