If everything was lined up properly, you wouldn't know the difference. If it WASN'T lined up properly, you would KNOW that you had to pull your head. Why do you think that the dowel pins are not there?

dowl pins insure the Head Gasket is seated by keeping the block and
head to travel under cylinder pressures. yes, they move the slightest
bit and w/o the dowls you should blow the HG someday soon
