nitromethane... why isnt anyone using it?
Tonite me and some buddies were sitting around talking about drag racing, V8s, import domestic, anything drag racing. The topic of nitro methane came up.
Has anyone tried it yet in a sport compact, if so, who? and why arent they still using it and did they benifit? And if not... why not? Is it againts the rules? im curious? Nothing beats the sound of a top fuel engine.
I know you can use it small displacment engines... they run nitro harelys, or top fuel bikes. Id like to learn more... so if anyone knows of some good info lets see it.

I think most classes of import racing ban it.... I looked on google a little and everything that came up under nitromethane "4 cylinder" came up as restricted.
most ban the solid blocks produced as well...
Some say it's to keep it all fair I think it's just restrictive to progress...
Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Nitro is an industrial chemical and pretty nasty stuff. YOu need really high cylinder pressures to even make it burn. Blowby from burning it ruins oil. It can eat through many materials used in fuel systems. Do you really want engine lifespan like a top fuel engine? Ask anyone running a fuel engine what happens if you get the mixture off by very much. Boom, everything gone, to to bottom.
From a potential speed increase, bring it on. From a cost escalation, bad plan. It could be fun watching a Honda guy doing a 75 min turnaround full rebuild like the top fuel guys though. I think the blocks and heads would have to be made specifically for running fuel due to the cylinder pressures.

thanks for the reply, it isnt in the NHRA accepted fuel list for sportcompacts. I think only in a matter of time til someone tried it. If i only have the cash to do it.
