Default newbie with some Qs

sup guys, i got a couple of questions. i have a 2001 automatic integra LS with a b16 head. first question, i can't feel the vtec kick in- anything i can do about this? and im considering converting it to stick, and i need to know what parts to get from the junk yard. an estimate on how much it will all cost would be helpful. aaand theres this annoying whistling sound comin from my engine when i open the throttle a certain ways- is this curable? any suggestions would be appreciated ~ lates!

so you have a ls/vtec that has a problem engaging v tec? could be because your still running your stock ls ecu w/ the new head...

or if your car is just stock, ls's don't have a vtec cam

manual tranny swap will be about 1-2 grand depending on what tranny you get and labor costs.

by any chance do you have an aftermarket intake? If so, to remedy the whistling sound, take it off......

yeah it's probably your intake.

what ECU are you running? if it's an LS then it has no VTEC crossover.

If you have money go for some TODA cams. if you don't have that much, go for ITR or CTR, CTRs would work better and easier since LS's have less compression. if you really have money then go turbo, but please get a manual tranny before that. it will cost a lot, though.

Screw cams until you get the thing running correctly.

You really should get a VTEC ECU to get the motor running properly. Since there's no such thing as an automatic VTEC ECU I doubt VTEC is being engaged. What kind of setup are you running? Best course of action would be to convert to 5spd and run a '99-'00 Civic Si or ITR ECU. You can find used ones for around $300 at various places. Otherwise with the automatic you'll have to stick with your stock ECU, get an MSD RPM-activated switch to kick VTEC in and then an S-AFC or V-AFC to get your fuel dialed in right.

"Since there's no such thing as an automatic VTEC ECU"

Not true....the gsr in japan (the SiR-G) came in auto.

Try getting a jdm SiR-G ecu if you want to keep your auto....but i think you're wasting your vtec power by leaving it auto, the auto SiR-G dynoed at 113 peak whp wheareas the manual dynoed at 145 whp. After around 5.5k rpms the torque converter just seems to meet its limit and starts to slip...and the hp curve just flattens.

Convert to manual, and run the itr ecu....it'll make your life much easier, and much more fun w/the manual.

I'm aware of the SiR-G ECU. Just try finding one.
