New Syncros on a 94 GSR
Looking to buy a 94 GSR. Seller claims third gear is going out, needs replaced syncros.
How hard is it to do this, I've read from a previous search that it's a waste of money to take it in and get it done.
What is involved? Should I only do third gear?

Replacing transmission parts is cake. It's about as hard as changing your oil.
But you don't know what to replace until you open it up. People alway say "the synchros are bad" because they've heard the word "synchros" too much and they think they know something.
It could be a lot of things that are bad. Worst case scenario is that you need to buy a new 3rd gear set from Honda which costs about $300.

yea, it might not be the synchro. it could be the gear itself, the third gear sleeve, the syncro, or a combination of these three. and also i would'nt say its cake. if u dont put everything together exactly right it wont work anymore. tranny's are tricky because u can still put them back together with something being wrong with it. if u dont have someone there who has expirience i would'nt do it by myself. thats just me though. good luck.
Well I wouldn't attempt it without a helms. I just browsed the web and found a .pdf Helms for my car. I printed out the Transmission chapter and it was a cinch. It's like an erector set - just look at the diagram and copy it
