Does anyone know if a block assembly bought new from a Honda dealership includes the crank/pistons/rods? I'm looking at building a motor but prefer new over used. Just weighing the possiblities. If anyone knows thanks. I'll call the local dealer to make sure just seeing if anyone knew ahead of time.
You can probably make a bigger motor by buying a used block that looks good and getting it bored out. It'd be cheaper than buying an OEM BLOCk and then you'll have more money to buy good pistons, cams etc. If the block is good, once you take it to a machine shop, they'll inspect if so you're 100 percent sure and then you can have fresh new walls when getting it bored and honed

I'm a purist when it comes to doing things that look stock but perform far beyond, but not so far as to hide things like a sleeper. I don't race people with it but it is far lacking in power and it needs an engine that can match its capabilities in the handling and braking department.
The brakes consists of Wilwood Dynalite 4 piston calipers with 11" cross drilled/slotted rotors in front, 11" slotted rotors with a disc brake conversion utilitizing entirely brand new oem CR-X Si rear disc brake trailing arms, calipers and hardware, stainless brake lines all around, brand new 15/16 master cylinder for a Civic EX and complimentary brake booster, and Motul RBF 600 brake fluid.
The suspension consists of a Full ES kit minus the rear trailing arm bushings. Neuspeed front sway bar, rear sway bar, front upper tie bar, rear upper tie bar, Cusco front lower tie bar. Skunk2 front and rear camber kits, Tein SS w/ pillowball upper mounts and EDFC.
Needless to say the motor has to be on the same par as the rest of the car. I have been toying with the idea of building and oem spec Type R motor for it, thinking B16B or B18C5 or something very similar to continue having it be as reliable and clean looking as if it was bought that way. Nothing can be half assed, attention to detail is paramount and if it isn't done by me than its something I don't have tools to do which is really only machining work.
So I guess it comes down to whether or not I want to buy a new block and head and build a type r motor with brand new parts, something that I am currently calculating to cost north of 6k in the end or buy a Type R swap for around 4.5k or so and then doing whatever it would take to make it meet my level of standards. Not sure about it right now but time is not a problem, I have owned this car for around 7 years and only now I am getting around to the engine, mostly because I have enjoyed the almost 40mpg it gets but now I have an EK hatch as a daily driver and this car needs a new heart. I'll figure it out eventually, just looking for some more input, I know that I am in the company of a few people who "get" it as far as doing tasteful modifications that result in not only respect but enjoyment of using what you have done to its full potential.
I get what your saying. What do you want to do with the car? DD, show, race, keep forever?
Any Acura/Honda dealership can get you a Long Block, (Head and block and everything in between) or a Short Block (Block, pistons, rods, crank) and even fully assembled heads. These are the expensive options but at least you know what you are getting.
Another place for ITR Head parts.

Well I have taken the plunge, I purchased a brand new B18C5 short block and a brand new P80 Type R transmission with the 4.40 final drive. I know the 4.785 pulls better but I will be driving the car on the highway from time to time. I am going to attempt to build a complete Type R engine and transmission for the car. Thanks OH 1fstgsr for the recommendation I will definately take it into consideration. I figured I ought to get those two parts first because they are the only parts that have the least amount of variables in ordering.
