New member here with a question
Hello everyone! My name is Ken,and I was referred to join up here by a fellow co-worker at an autozone here;his name is Keith & he drives a white del sol.I have always been educated in the ways of VW,but I have come to realize that Hondas have much more potential & cost effectiveness in the area of racing;specifically oval track racing. So I will admit I know little about Hondas but I am always willing to learn. This is especially true in the area of engine & chassis codes.I know all of the vw ones & how to interpret them, but nothing about Honda stuff.I have owned 2 Hondas in my past;a '80 Civic wagon & a '72 600 sedan(I miss that car......sniff...)
So here is my question: what year & model Civic would make the best platform to build a killer oval track racer?? I am aware that there are many options for motor swaps(keith keeps telling me this!),but I want to start off small first,so what I would be looking for is the best engine/trans/chassis combo out of the box;meaning in stock form with no swaps.I may very well in the future swap in a different motor or trans, but like I said I have to start small & build myself up to that later.Thank you in advance for any advice & help, and I look forward to spending more time "learning" honda.....

Depends on a few things. How much your willing to spend. If its wheel to wheel racing, you might want to pick something thats cheap and you wont care too much about when it gets hit. Are you wanting to run a stock class or a mod class? A buddy of mine is runnin in a stock class in a DC2 acura integra and has been very successful.
I was kinda looking to start out in a stock class;then maybe move up to a mod class at a later date. And yeah there's a fair amount of contact between racers;so I wouldn't want to get a car that would be hard to find parts for in a salvage yard. Not an enduro race oh god no! Just a regular 15 lap feature with heats & warm up laps. DC2?? Im sorry but I know very little about honda & acura engine & chassis codes;so you'll have to help me on that;my background has all been in VW's.I know that some acuras weigh a bit more than their honda cousins;so weight may be an issue;it all depends on the car.do u have any pics or a webpage link to your friends car?? money is not necessarily an issue;it just depends on the engine & chassis combo I start out with.I would like to start off with a lower buck car that would have lots of build-up potential.just one more tip: any forced induction is not allowed.
oh...the guy who is a member here who referred me to join is:

thanks for your reply addict! due to alot of rust on cars up here in central NY solid civic hatches are kinda hard to find.I was thinking either maybe a 88-91 or a 92-95 hatch.I tried to find a solid reasonably priced CRX;even one with a bad motor and they want too much.a CRX would be ideal;lightweight, short, fits on my 12ft car trailer,etc....but fat chance finding one up here.top spots at my speedway are mostly asian cars:

I suggest a 92-95 EG civic hatchback, but I'm partial to EG's.
I know more than most that finding a cleaner car is very hard. I live in Michigan, so we're in the same boat.
