New cams + Fuel Probs
Hey guys,
Bit of a lurker, and love the info you guys give out, but now its time for me to ask my question. Im really at a loss and its been 4 weeks now and wayyy over budget....so here goes,
I have a 01 lude with h22a. I have i/h/e with vafc and just put in some Skunk2 Stage 1 cams and gears. I have 3 stages for the story and Ill describe each stage below.
Stage 1: We installed cams, and realised we didnt have a keylock so we kept the OEM gears on with the new cams and went to the dyno. Car felt realy kerky on the way there, surging while accelerating.......We were on the dyno for about 10 mins and then guy says , nah your wayyy too lean and Ive put the vafc at +15 and its still lean....get a new fuel pump.
Stage 2: I get a walbro 255lp/h pump locally and we install it a week later. Leave the gears off still cos havnt got part from Honda. Take car to the dyno again, fuel is nice and we get it running perfect, no red lean lights on the dyno....sitting around 12-14 afr. BUT.....the car is still very laggy and surgy. It is very boggy off the mark, hesitates heaps. Its suggested to me that I should do a few things. GEt new spark plugs, install the gears and advance or retard as necessary.....Ok I thin.....
Stage 3: I get NGK Iridiums, we put them in. Car feels a litttle bit more responsive but still, like for the past 3 weeks, I cannot rev the car over 4,000rpm cos of paranoa. No dyno visit yet. 5 days later we put the gears in and the car was actually a little better. I described it as being about 60% better. SO now we go back to the dyno with those 3 things done....and guess what....we are back to stage 1 with the car running VERY lean again
For now, we have the fuel correction at +8 and when I accelerate, sometimes Ill have no power at all, and then it suddenly gets power and i am slingshoted down the road....I dont go over 50% throttle nor 4,500rpm at this stage.
Speaking to a mate tonight, Im going to get my fuel pressure read and see what that is reading. IF necessary, I may need a new regulator or something. Should this have been mentioned from the start? They knew somehow not enough fuel was being pumped, but they just suggested fuel pump, nothing about the regulator. My mate suggested that the OEM one could be clogged? ANother suggestion was he said the injectors could be blocked or something?
Starting to get very tight cos Im off to the snow in a weks time and only have 5 days to fix this problem. Has anyone got any suggestions the could offer please? Im pulling my hair out here, cos what should have been a simple excercise, has turned into a 4 week fiasco that has put me about $600USD over budget so far....plus the rest with the fuel regulator etc etc.....
Thansk in advance to any replies. Its late here in Aussiland so Im off to bed. Will reply in the morning
Cheers guys
ps
Forgot to menton, pump works fine..I can hear it when the car is on....but since the 3rd dyno vist, sometimes now the car wont start first go and I have to turn off key and then start and it starts first go.....hmmmmm

Pardon the question... as I realize terms vary from place to place... but what exactly are you referring to when you say keylock?
