way too rich on the bottom of the rev range, i'd guess, and yes, the retarded ig. timing will possibly hurt performance depending on the tuning needs of the engine...go to a dyno man; Especially with a built motor- the only way to get it rite.

 

assuming you have a B motor:
are your cams indexed properly at TDC?
are you running special cam settings that are unproven?
how are your valves adjusted, if too tight... mak-a no powa
bone cold (rrom temperature) = .007in, .008ex <spec
timing should be tuned to 16-18BTDC+ depending on overlap period
hows your AFR?
any vaccum leaks?
loose ground wire> this can make the ignition system weak
loose throttle cable?
reset the computer the CEL richens the AFR and retards timing
new tune up stuff? air, fuel filters, cap/rotor, plugs, wires?
bald front tires?
slipping clutch>?

just some ideas!

948 miles opn it, no launches, just stepping on it in 4th & 5th, i have talked to some tuners around here, they said that was fine
