Default New 96 Civic. Need help with ECU set up. Pics

I just got a 96 EX Civic D16y8, full exhaust, intake but it has a p72 ECU, with adapter to OEM harness. Guy said it was programmed. Is there a better choice or is this set up ok? Reading, I would think p28 is proper. Runs good to me other than a few misses at low rpm. I'm new to tuning on these.

A stock P28 ECU will run the Y8 engine fairly well... but understand that a P72 with a chip (programmed with a D16Z6 calibration) would function just like a P28. Your current problem with the P72 is you don't know what calibration is on the chip... you just know it is chipped.

But why? Why all that and not just run a p28? Why would someone go that route, trying to learn here

You are thinking WAY too hard here... don't worry about "why" and just fix it. You won't like the "why" answers anyway.
