Default Need some help...please

yesterday I was driving in my 2000 Civic Si with basic bolt ons and my check engine light came on. I stopped and looked under the hood and everything looked ok to me. It sounded normal and there was no odors or smoke...I don't know what to do...any suggestions? I'm gonna take it to my local shop on Monday but if I can avoid that costs I would greatly appreciate it. What would you check first? Thanks in advance.

A check engine light doesn't just mean "pull the expletive over, your car is about to explode." It could be something as simple as a shot cat, or an oxygen sensor.

I didn't pull it over because it was gonna explode...I drove it the rest of the night..
Tomorrow I'm gonna check to see what code it's throwing and take it from there. I found out how to do it and then I can research the code...
Thanks for the help.
