pull the head
drop the pan, the windage tray and girdle
remove the pistons and rods
cover the bare crank

refresh the rods with new rod bearings
hone the cylinder walls, not rebore with a honing tool
to make sure the ridge at the top of the cylinder lining
is clean
if your goal is to go boost, then research your options
on a head gasket and block stiffening while it is apart
for more rigidity and strength, install ARP rodbolts
install oil temp, pressure gague kit an oil cooler and
competition ITR oil pump I know Endyn makes one
for 200 bucks.

also, change the rings.

you will be in much better condition when you do
this than just changing the rings and this can be
had for under a grand.

You might as well disassemble the head while you're at it and replace the valve seals.

It would also be the time to install valvetrain components if you had any planned.
