Yup, I had to take down the the fins about 1/4 inch on both halves of the tranny. Pretty simple, clean the cases real good after your done. Everything else should drop right in.

IFF you're dealing with a YS1 cable transmission, you can cut the case to allow for diff clearance - IFF the diff in question is a GSR/ITR LSD. The body of these diffs is wider and will hit the fins otherwise. You will also need the matching ring gear and possibly other internal parts.

There may have been a factory LSD that was smaller in size, like the YS1 and other hydro LS/Si gearboxes (perhaps from the JDM YS1?), in which case it should drop right into a YS1 case.

If you've got a Y1,A1,S1,J1 (any other cable gearbox), I think you've got to have the early-style cable LSD. The diff for these gearboxes is not compatible with the YS1 or hydro units as far as I know.

Here is a shot of the clearancing I did to allow an ITR LSD to be installed in my YS1 case. I cut a little more than necessary, but it's an easy trial-fit job.

YS1 and S1 are the same diffs. and cases.

The S1 is an early cable gearbox - not the same as the YS1, which is internally identical to the 94+ hydro boxes. Cases are not the same.
As far as the diffs are concerned, I've never had them on the bench next to each other, but have heard they aren't the same.

I have had a YS1 and a S1 side by side before. I am using a 99 civic SI hydro LSD in my S1. Pretty much droped right in (Same LSD that went into the YS1 I did) just had to take down the fins 1/4" on both.
