i'm taking off my axles to take out my clutch but am unable to take off the spindle nut. i used an electric impact gun and an air gun with no success. I also tried spraying liquid wrench and this didn't help as well. I NEED HELP ASAP. thanks in advance.
Are you talking about the axel nuts? Put the car back on its wheels, put it on the ground, and pop off the center cap from your rims. then get a big(3+ foot) breaker bar, and a big friend to turn those things off.
Mine were a pain, and I had my car on stands so I just stood on the brakes while my friend wrenched the nuts off.

yeah the axle nuts, but my car is on stands and i just placed a crowbar between two of the studs and the works just as well. have you tried an impact gun or airgun?
hey boost,
if your having that much of a problem removing the axle nut.. the the worst might be yet to come... I had and axle that would not 'absoulutly" not come out of the hub assembly.. I tried breaker bars..no luck.. got the torches out and got halfway thru the axle stem (over an hour of cutting/melting) still no luck... got frustrated and sent he whole mess out to the local machine shop and they got it out while saving the knuckle.. I don't know how they did it, but god bless them peeps..

If you use an air gun on it with enough torque it shouldnt be a problem. If you are doing this at your house with a small compressor it probably isnt enough. You can remove the entire knuckle and axle as an assembly and take it down to the dealership and Im sure a tech will help you out if you bring beer with you
I know I would.

Don't break your tools on it. If you can't get it of with an impact use a Dremel with a cutting wheel and put a slice in the nut. Don’t have a Dremel, drill a hole through it. The nut will then come off no problem. The nuts are inexpensive and can easily be replaced.

I've always used a 1/2 drive rachet with a long pipe to break the nuts loose. Impact wrenches don't seem to get them off for me, and I've heard they're not good for the wheel bearing either.

thanks for all the reply guys, it is much appreciated. as for the dremel, yeah, i'll try that tomorrow. actually, i might go out and buy it and return it after using it
but for the air compressor it's a 2.5 hp campbell housefield. not sure if that is strong enough to take it off or not. but, is an impact gun really bad for the wheel bearings?
oh yeah, thanks for the picture raeneshadow. it's funny because that looks like my garage right now.
and i did break a couple of craftsman screwdrivers trying to straighten out the spindle nut but ah well, i'll take it back to them once this is all done for a new set.

Easy way:
Use a 1.5-2 foot breaker bar. Set your e-brake and have a friend put the car in 5th and stand on the brakes. Set your breaker bar and socket up and place a jack under the end of the breaker bar. Jack the end of your bar up and it will either turn the socket or lift the car, the socket always turns. Good luck.

you don't need to take off the spindle nut to take out the tranny. I've done it three times, just pull the whole axle with the hub out and then just use something to support the hub so it doesn't just hang there off the a arm. takes two people, for the driver side just to make it easy, but you can remove the whole axle and intermediate shaft without disassembling, and for the pass side, just leave it in attatched to the tranny, you're just changing the clutch, not working on the tranny.
Does the nut have the section that gets staked into the keyway in it like other Hondas? On my CRX, you need to pry the punched section back up before trying to remove the nut. Then you will need a really long breaker bar and it should come off.
i wouldnt say cut the nut... just use a breaker bar with the car on the ground... use a big person too... and some snap-on tools... and if u want break one or 2...
