!Need help with smoking engine!
I have a 1992 LX with a D15B7. I've always had a problem with excessive oil consumption and smoking. I recently changed the valve seals and it smokes worse than before. I did a compression check and all cylinders are around 145-150. So it seems I have good compression, but yet it still smokes and burns oil. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this problem?
i installed the seals while the head was out of the car, i double checked all the seals b4 i installed it again i did this all in my friends shop , he helped me out with the install , as far as a leakdown test , what does that involve???
A leakdown goes like this, remove plugand put the cyl you are testing at tdc compression, then you screw fitting into the plug threads and fill with compressed air.then you read the gagues to see how much leakage there is in the cyl.0-5%is good and up to 10%on a street car is acceptable, race no more than 2-4%.If the leak is coming from the dipstick the rings are bad, exhaust or intake manifold leaks mean bent valves or bad valve job.Any competant mechanic shop should be able to perform this for you.
