98 civic ex- trying to find a cam. a summit sport compact catalog told me i have a d16z7 i can post if ness. then you guys told me i have a d16y8 which is fine, but all the cams i can find are for d16z6...WTF? what gives here? are the cams in these motors interchangable? HELP!!
p.s. a couple places that listed 96-up civic sohc listed them as d16z6!!

I know the 96-00 ex is the d16y8. There are a few cam companies out that make cams for your car. The z6 is the 92-95 si, I think.

 

so if a few places say 96-00 civic d16z6 then that is ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT?

 

5th gens are d16z6 6th gens ar d16y8. tons of companies sell a cam that they call "interchangeable"...i know crower did, dunno if they still do. One problem was the small amount of timing difference, which im sure they assumed was small enough not to matter hence interchangeable, really made the cam a bitch to work with on one motor or another (Depending on what generation they modeled it after).
