need help quick! Car won't start.. no crank..
I have a 92 integra GS (b18a) with 120k miles.
first time this happened was friday. I tried to start my car and it just didnt crank. I turned the key and NOTHING.. all the electrical stuff was working though. Radio, lights, dash lights, etc, worked. Then after a few tries, it started. it happened like that a few more times over the weekend and today when i got home, it just didnt start at all.
The car also made a loud aweful cracking noise when it DID start after numerous tries. There was also a weird smell coming from the car after trying to do it.
What do u guys think it is?
one of my friends told me it might be the AC pump.. if it gets fried, then the belt can't spin and therefor the engine won't crank. And the smell is coming from the belt rubbing against the pulley. It happened to his explorer, same exact thing.. witht he smell and everything.
Any other ideas? please help quick cause i need to get to work tomorrow!

If the car won't crank over sometimes, the first thing I would check is your battery terminals. Any autoparts store should sell a terminal cleaner thing... basically it's a two-ended wire brush. One end looks like a bottle brush, you clean the inside of the battery cable terminal with this end, and the other end is inverted and you can clean the battery terminal with this end.
See if you can get to the auto parts store and find one of these... take your battery cables off, wire brush them, and put them back on and tighten them up. If you're still having problems, you may either have a weak (or dead) battery, or your starter is going out.
I would say it's unlikely that it's some kind of accessory that has siezed, because to create a burning rubber type smell, the engine would actually have to crank over and rub the belt against the pulley for it to start smelling... you say the engine's not cranking over at all... soo... more likely dirty battery terminals, dead/dying battery or dead/dying starter.
Start simple and work your way up.

its not the battery.. battery works perfectly. like i said.. everythign electrical works fine. Besides, a honda tech checked all the electrical connections.. everything is good.. so the prob is NOT electrical.. unless its somewhere after the starter.
ok well there is nothing after the starter. the starter is the end of the road.
try checking if power gets to the starter. check the connections with a volt meter. if you get power there then try checking if the starter is stuck. remove the starter and try applying power to the starter and listen for a click. if you dont hear anything its probably the solenoid. have fun.

if u tested the battery and tested the starter and they are fine. try checking if its the grounds. add some extra growneds to the car and see if it works, wat i did was take a jumper cable connected it directly to the batter (ground) and put that ground onto the metal and tried starting it and it worked. so check fuses, starter and battery
